Hilde Lotz-Bauer

In a woman’s footsteps

In ItalianCatalogue Introduction by Daniela Stati, Deputy Chair of the Regional Council of the Abruzzi

Orme di Donna

The initiative – organised by the Municipality of Scanno – of remembering Hilde Lotz-Bauer, a German artist and photographer, who was the first among many photographers to reveal the genuineness and originality of the Abruzzi, fits in splendidly with the centenary of International Women's Day, within the framework of which the Abruzzi will celebrate the social, political and economic achievements of women in the month of March 2008.

It is not merely by chance that for the first time the Abruzzi dedicates an exhibition to this German Artist, with beautiful pictures of Scanno taken in the second half of the thirties, and never published before, with the typical reserve and elegance of female sensibility.

Hilde biography

After approximately 70 years, Hilde Lotz-Bauer returns to Scanno, in the places and among the people that were sources of inspiration, that only decades later proved to be a "fatal attraction" for many Italian and foreign Masters of photography. Her pictures portray the history and life of other women, proud of their identities, their old traditions and their costume of royal elegance which has become the living symbol par excellence of the region and of the strength and genuineness of us women of the Abruzzi.
