Marcus Aurelius wrote in his Meditations, that the written language connects people through the barriers of time. I think photographs have similar qualities.
Hilde photographed Italy and a way of life that is now lost, but I guess what she saw would, for her, have been scenes from everyday life. It makes me wonder how she decided what she was going to photograph, And the light which is just fantastic. She must have thought it through carefully.
I would like to know what Hilde was thinking. Her photographs are so incredible in their composition and lighting. She was very skilled. I think many of her photos capture life in quite ordinary places but she makes them seem so pricelessly beautiful.
When looking at this motif it feels so special, as though nothing could be more valuable than portraying that moment with the oxen, man and children. It’s a feeling I cannot really explain.

Marco Aurelio scrisse nelle sue Meditazioni che la lingua scritta collega le persone attraverso le barriere del tempo. Secondo me, la fotografia ha delle qualità analoghe. Hilde ha fotografato l’Italia e un modo di vivere che nel frattempo è andato perduto, ma immagino che ciò che vedeva le apparisse come uno spaccato di vita quotidiana. Mi chiedo come decidesse i soggetti da immortalare, con quella luce semplicemente fantastica, e penso che ponderasse con cura ogni singolo scatto.
Mi piacerebbe sapere a cosa pensasse mentre realizzava i suoi lavori, incredibili per composizione e luce. Aveva davvero una grande abilità e credo che molte delle sue foto siano istantanee di vita in luoghi piuttosto ordinari, che però, grazie a lei, assumono straordinaria bellezza.
Guardando questa scena si prova una sensazione speciale, come se nulla potesse importarle di più di immortalare quel momento, con i buoi, l’uomo e i bambini. È qualcosa che non riesco a spiegare.
